If you’ve read my first book, Tales of Larkin: Hawthorn’s Discovery, then you remember that the hero Hawthorn, as he found himself in various difficulties, kept wishing that he could talk to the Maker. If you haven’t read my book, then you’re kind of confused with my last statement. I will explain. Most of the Larkin think that only the Shaman, their clan religious and civil leaders, can pray to the Maker. They believe that the great Maker of All That Is can only understand a special language and that only the Shaman can speak that language, hence, Hawthorn’s dilemma. It takes most of the book before he understands and is convinced that anyone can pray to God.
I hope you treasure that gift, but if you’re like me you probably take it for granted. Take a moment and think about what it means to be able, anytime you want, to step into the presence of the Most Powerful and Important Person There Is and to be welcomed there as family. And while you’re there, this Great Person hangs on every word you say, giving you His utmost attention. He even says that He wants you to make requests of Him. His conditions are that you ask it in His Son’s name, that is, in Jesus’ nature (i.e., ask as Jesus would ask), and that you ask in faith.
I hope all of you Larkin readers recognize that the Makerians in my story had the asking God part down. When they understood the treasure of prayer, it’s like they couldn’t stop. I’m sure you noticed that they prayed about almost everything, and they eagerly anticipated His answers. That’s because they trusted Jesus when He said, “Ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7).
Think about it. God hasn’t changed since Jesus said this. This promise still applies to believers today. If we really grasped the significance of this statement, I can’t help believe that our daily lives would be more like the Makerians’ than the Larkins’ (or worse, like the Renegades).
The Maker has given us a very precious and extremely powerful gift. Through prayer we can change things. Your secret prayers in your bedroom can change people’s lives or change circumstances half way around the world. And that can happen every day!
It took Hawthorn almost the whole book to figure out what the Maker was offering him. Don’t you think it’s time for you to open up that treasure chest God gave you and put that incredible gift to work right now? Why don’t you stop reading this and spend some time with Him?
Blessings,
Alan Harris
