About the Book

Blake Miller and his four friends from college are flying to a football game when a plane crash changes everything. Trapped in a dark world between life and death, Blake must figure out where he is, why he’s there and if there is any hope of escape. With an army of demons intent on catching and tormenting him, Miller’s only hope is in the form of two angels sent because of his grandmother’s faithful prayers. Not only must Blake try to find a way to survive this horrible ordeal, but he must also come to grips with why he is there in the first place

The story also follows Blake’s friend, Milton Collins who died in the crash. Milton had recently become a follower of Jesus and the crash resulted in him being welcomed into Paradise with his Lord and the wonderful experiences awaiting him there. Milton’s regret is the hurt he caused his ex-wife and his great desire is to somehow find a way to help her get to this wonderful place.

The Other Side of the Veil is a captivating book. The characters are believable and truly make you believe you are there with them. The plot had a lot of twists and turns and it was difficult for my son & I to put the book down. It was engaging and suspenseful at times, along with having many great spiritual lessons and scenarios to discuss. It probably needs a sequel!

For those who desire a glimpse into the poignant and beautiful details of what it is like to walk by Jesus’ side in heaven, “The Other Side of the Veil” will bring Jesus followers fresh delight and great anticipation for arriving in heaven to walk beside our Savior. For those who do not follow Jesus, please receive these words and be shaken to the core by the horror and reality of demons, darkness and eternal pain in being separated from Jesus at death. I beg you to heed the graphic descriptors written in “The Other Side of the Veil” and decide hastily to be His, by believing and following Jesus.

Alan's new book The Other Side of the Veil is both a heartbreaking and heartwarming story of the mostly unseen and often ignored battle we all face in this life and the consequences of the decisions we make. This is a great read, and hopefully life-changing for each of us as we face life's challenges. Once started it is difficult to put down until the last page. Great Job Alan!

You have woven the story of the ages in a way that I am praying many will see and believe. Sometime ago I read a quote of Dwight L. Moody, the founder of Moody Bible Institute in which he ponders “Is this dying? Why, this is bliss…Heaven is opening; God is calling, I must go.” I thought about this as I read your words in “The Other Side of the Veil”. I am so thankful that you and I know there is life after life. I read a study that concluded that of the hundreds of people who claimed to have had “after life” experiences, 23% of the people reported near death experiences that ranged from disturbing to terrifying. Your story clearly shows that death is not something to be feared and that Jesus will save those who believe.

Alan, as I read the book, I kept thinking, fiction, pure fiction…or is it? With so much unknown about the Heavenly Places, the Spiritual Realm, the “other side,” I kept wondering what exactly is to be expected. Your drama, which does find its roots in snippets of biblical text, gave my imagination permission to…well…imagine. What is not fiction about this story is the reign and reality of the Lordship of Jesus; one who fights a constant battle against the terrifying forces of the Prince of Darkness. You gave me a visual of, as we often sing, a “place that we call heaven” and makes me a little envious of Milton’s victorious experience. For me however, Lady Edith emerges as the true hero and role model. The Other Side of the Veil, to me, is a collision of the Screwtape Letters, Hobbits, and biblical theology. I found the book to be frightfully entertaining with plenty of high action and drama, combined with a touch of humor and emotion. Being a visual person, I kept seeing images on large screen. This would have been a great project for Fruits of Loop Productions. I liked the book and think it would be a good read followed by a group discussion. I’ve always believed that the church was to give us a glimpse of how heaven would be. Fallen man has turned most churches into member only exclusive denominations that, in America, seem to built more around corporate models and democracy than Kingdom and community. Our entitlement culture has fueled, for some, “meet my needs” over “where can I serve?” Sorry for the strong opinion but you pushed that button.

Alan, I am impressed with your description of the characters. This book is a good reminder of what hell could be like and what real Christianity looks like. The storyline flows nicely and even has a little humor in addition to profound lessons for us all.
