In Progress

News

11 Jan

I currently have three books completed in the Tales of Larkin series, the fourth book, titled Tales of Larkin: Mosstar and Belladonna is being edited and I am almost finished with the fifth book, which I have titled: Tales of Larkin: Fiery Trials. I don't know how many other people enjoy these stories but I have really had a lot of fun writing them! As long as my family and I enjoy the stories it's worth the effort. I will have to admit, though, that I do appreciate hearing from those of you who have read them. ... Read More about In Progress

“What Are Your Secrets For Writing Fiction?

For Fans/Readers

The main thing that helps me in writing my stories is that I try to remember to pray first, asking God to put what He wants into the story, and then I try to see myself as one of the characters about whom I’m going about to write. By picturing myself in the story, it’s easier to figure out what happens next. It also gives me a perspective from which to write. If I have some difficulty figuring out what happens next, then as I imagine myself in the story, I mentally start wandering around in the scene and see what I discover. If I need additional help, then I do the same thing, but I will do it as I actually walk around in our woodsy backyard or in the woods behind our house. If you look closely, you will find all kinds of drama happening right there in your own back yard. It only ... Read More about “What Are Your Secrets For Writing Fiction?

What Do The Makerians Always Do To Solve Their Problems?

For Parents/Teachers

Okay, Larkin fans, it’s time for a Larkin trivia question: What’s the first thing Makerians do when they are faced with a problem? When they first started out and they were repeatedly attacked, they did it.  The result of which was that, after nursing an injured but murderous enemy back to health, the powerful Renegade warrior devoted himself to protecting the Makerians for the rest of his life. When they were looking for a place to live, they did it and found Stillwaters. When they needed a way to kindle fires more efficiently, they did it and discovered fire stones. When they needed a way to see in the dark, they did it and invented light sticks. When they needed to quickly get from one part of the forest to another part, they did it and came up with whirly bugs. When ... The Search For Good Books

Stories

One of the big concerns my wife and I have had over the past twenty-two years that we have homeschooled our six children is finding good books for them to read. There are some good ones out there, but it’s kind of like prospecting for gold. It’s not too bad if you’ve got children who love to read, but if they don’t enjoy it much or if, like me, their attention span is short, it’s much more difficult. In that case, you need exciting stories that are fast paced that still have a biblical world view and, ideally, teach moral lessons. So what do you think? Is my wish list too high? I don’t think so. There are some exciting, well-written books out there that can draw a reader closer to God, such as: All of the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis We’ve gone through a lot of G. A. Henty’s ... Are You A Renegade, A Makerian, Or A Larkin?

For Parents/Teachers

My question today is, “Are you a Renegade, a Makerian, or a Larkin?” It really is a question worthy of consideration. Renegades are bad. They are selfish, arrogant, domineering, greedy, rebellious, and dishonest. Renegades are uncaring, self-serving, bitter, and cruel.  They know they’re bad and are happy being Renegades. “Renegadeness” is very easy to spot in your character. Makerians are good. They are selfless, giving, loving, merciful, kind, and honest. Makerians seek God’s will in all circumstances and pray without ceasing. They know they are saved by the Maker’s grace and that their righteousness is not their own but is a gift from their Lord Jehesus. You don’t have to be around a Makerian very long before you recognize who they are. If you are a Makerian, others can tell ... Read More about Are You A Renegade, A Makerian, Or A Larkin?

Part Two Of A Short Story By Alan Harris

For Fans/Readers

SPECIAL DELIVERY -Part 2 Thomas sat quietly in the bushes watching for movement in the deepening shadows around the Robertsons’ yard. It had been dark for over an hour. He shivered slightly, both from the slight chill in the air and from excitement. He had seen a black sedan parked at the end of the block but had observed no one moving around. Keeping to the shadows, Thomas slipped over the fence, crossed the yard, and slid inside the unlocked garage door. He found the bundle easily and placed it inside his shirt. A faint sound just outside the door alerted him, and he looked quickly for a place to hide. A few moments later, the rear door burst open, and two agents rushed in with flashlights and guns in their hands. “He’s hiding,” one snapped. “Search for him.” As they began ...
