Psalm 91:1 – “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the almighty.”
In psalms like this one and also Psalm 86 God makes sure that we know who He is for us. He lets us know why it’s to our advantage to make Him our God.
In this psalm He offers us amazing gifts but at the same time asks so little of us.
In verse 2 the writer encourages us to do what he did. We are simply to say to the Lord in faith, ‘You are my refuge, my fortress, and my God in whom I trust.’
Just look at God’s response to our small act of faith that is recorded in verses 3-8:
- God will deliver us – verse 3
- God will cover us to protect us and gives us refuge in Him – verse 4
- God will be faithful to defend me – verse 4
- God will remove my fears…of ANYTHING – verses 5-8 (He lists night terrors, war, disease, and destruction of any kind)
- God will be my refuge – verse 9
- God will not allow ANY evil to overwhelm us – verse10
- God will make to us the same promise he made to Jesus in verses 11-13; He will send His angels to guard us, protect us, lift us up, and grant us victory over Satan.
In verse 14 God says that because we hold fast to Him in love and because we know His name (i.e. His nature, who He is), God promises to deliver us and protect us in this fallen world.
In verses 15-16 God promises that just the simple act of our calling to Him in faith will bring:
- God will answer our prayers,
- God will be with us in trouble,
- God will rescue us,
- God will honor us,
- God will satisfy us with as much life as we need to complete our purpose on this earth,
- And God will show us His salvation!
WOW! By simply trusting in God for protection, staying close to Him, and calling to Him in faith; He promises to give us all this!
Please, my friends, read Psalms 86 and 91 where God clearly reveals who He is for us. He is just waiting for us to take some little steps of faith in His direction, trusting in Him, and He promises to release the dam of His amazing, overwhelming blessings to us.
Yes, some promises and offers in this world are too good to be true, but God is too good for this NOT to be true. If God is calling to you today, take that step in His direction. You will be so glad you did.
