How would you like to receive some of God’s best and most precious blessings? How would you like to have God watch over you, guard you, and deliver you from evil people and their plans? What about living your life in security while at the same time avoiding fears, anxious thoughts, and the dread of disaster? Does that sound appealing?
All of these things and many other amazing blessings come to the person who acquires God’s wisdom. (Proverbs 1-3)
So how do we get God’s wisdom? Is it only for “special” people like Solomon? God had Solomon write Proverbs to explain to us that His wisdom is for anyone who wants it. He even explains where to start.
Proverbs 9:10 quoted above tells us that to receive God’s wisdom we must start with Godly fear. Reverencing the Lord as the All-knowing, All-powerful God, who knows my thoughts and my words before I even say them, is the foundation of gaining God’s wisdom.
We can’t hide anything from God and He will not be mocked. We can’t pretend with God. Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23 “Not every who says to me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in Heaven…” Fearing God is all about seeing God for who He really is, and living like you believe it, i.e. ‘doing His will‘.
God doesn’t have to bless us, but He wants too. It is up to us to empty ourselves and reverence God, submitting ourselves fully to Him and His Son, King Jesus. Under those circumstances we can ask, seek, and knock for His wisdom and He guarantees we’ll get it. Amazingly, along with wisdom and understanding from God He gives awesome blessings.
Read the first three chapters of Proverbs slowly and deliberately. As you do so, ask God what he is saying to you personally in these verses. You will be stunned at what God wants to do in our lives. And it all starts with the fear of the Lord.
