How many Tales of Larkin books are there and what are they about?

As of this writing, there are five books in the Tales of Larkin series. Book one is available in all of its formats. Let me tell you about them:

 The first book, Hawthorn’s Discovery introduces the reader to the Larkin people. These are one-inch tall woodland warriors who survive in the deep forests. They struggle daily to hunt and gather their food from the woods around them, while at the same time defending themselves from ants, birds, snakes, spiders, lizards (that they call dragons) as well as their fierce enemies, the Renegades. This fast-paced adventure follows sixteen year old Hawthorn, who while on a hunting trip, is captured by Renegades. He is rescued by a kind stranger who is from a tribe Hawthorn didn’t know existed. While recovering from his injuries he learns secrets that change his life forever. As he struggles with these startling new truths, Hawthorn hopes to find a way to save his father and friends who are still captives of the Renegades. It will take all of his determination and his new friend’s ingenuity to discover a way into the Renegade’s slave mines and rescue his companions.

 The second Tales of Larkin book is called Larkin’s Journal. This is actually a prequel to the first book, taking place nearly three hundred years in their past. It tells the story of the tiny young warrior who will eventually become the patriarch of all of the Larkin tribes; Larkin, son of Ramus.  While filled with lots of action and adventure, there is also much more mystery and intrigue in this book than the first, as Larkin, his father General Ramus and King Kaelin try to figure out why their enemies know their plans almost as soon as they make them. The answer is far more treacherous, destructive and deadly than any of them imagine. Fans of book one will finally have their questions answered—such as: From where did the Larkin people come? How did these inch-tall woodland warriors ever hear about the Maker and His Son Jehesus? And lastly, will their faith carry them through treachery, exile and a pilgrimage to a new world? [And just as a personal note let me add, that Larkin’s Journal is my favorite of all five books. I think that is because I had so much fun coming up with some of the characters. Also the mystery aspect of the story line, as well as discovering the history of the Larkin people made it more enjoyable for me.]

 Volume three in the Tales of Larkin series is The Great Gathering, which is the sequel to book one, Hawthorn’s Discovery. Two years have passed since Hawthorn, Rush, Jay and the others have returned to their clan to try to secretly serve their new King. They gratefully maintain contact with their Makerian friends Eldan and Tobin, while discovering that following Jehesus sometimes means being stretched to the very limits and beyond. When Hawthorn and his friends are recruited by the Makerians as part of a covert plan to bring the Maker’s love to all the Larkin clans, they soon learn that following King Jehesus sometimes means paying a very high price. This story starts with a rush, and the fast-paced action and gripping adventure continues throughout. Not only does the reader learn more fun and fascinating things about the Larkin and Makerian people, but they are also introduced to a number of unforgettable new characters.
