The Peace Everyone Wants—but Few Ever Find

Isaiah 26:3-4 –“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”

Anxiety, worry, frets, fears—That seems to be the legacy of our time. Roughly 38 million American adults take medication for anxiety, which is 14.3% of the U.S. adult population. The use of these drugs is highest among women, young adults (ages 18-34), and college students, according to a February 23, 2026, article in KFF Health News.

People just want peace, but it’s so elusive that we try to find it with medication.

What’s encouraging to me is that God knows we desperately need peace and, in this verse, He tells us that He is the source of it. In fact, He promises to keep us in perfect peace, but there is a condition to the promise. The promise of perfect peace is for those whose minds are stayed on God. What does that mean? The next part of the verse helps us understand. We are to constantly be aware of God’s presence in our lives and even our daily activities, to the extent that we are trusting that He has our lives in His hands, He is directing our choices and decisions, and that He is actively “working in us to will and work for His good pleasure.” (Pilippians2:13).

With that kind of confident trust in our faithful Heavenly Father, we can take the stresses and fears of our lives and eagerly and with certainty put them in God’s hands, knowing that He will take care of them. That’s where the perfect peace comes from. It’s not based on saying a mantra, or positive thinking. This perfect peace is based on trusting in who God is.

Look at the verses in Isaiah again. This promise of God is so secure that God exhorts us put our complete trust in God forever, BECAUSE the Lord our God is an everlasting rock for us. This promise is not only based on the absolute solid secure word of God, it is also founded on God’s very nature to be the unshakable protector of His children…AND it’s everlasting; which means God will never stop being your rock!
