You’re Choosing Your Future Right Now

Jeremiah 18:7-10 – “If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it. And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it, and if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice, then I will relent of the good that I intended to do to it.”

In the first six verses of Jeremiah 18, God sends Jeremiah to the potter’s house. Jeremiah watches as the potter works the clay on his wheel. But the vessel doesn’t turn out the way the potter intended, so the potter reshapes the clay into another vessel.

Then God gives Jeremiah the lesson.

Israel had rejected God, refused to listen to His Word, worshiped idols, and continually chose their own way. Their choices had consequences. God was preparing to bring judgment upon them.

But then comes the remarkable part.

If they would turn from their wickedness and return to God, God would relent from the disaster He intended to bring upon them.

And God makes it clear that the reverse is also true. If He intended to bless a people, but they turned away from Him and began doing evil, refusing to listen to His voice, He would relent of the good He intended to do.

Think about that.

Our choices matter.

God is not hiding the consequences of our choices from us. He has told us plainly what happens when we listen to Him—and what happens when we reject Him.

We often want God’s blessings while continuing to live life our own way. We want God to bless our plans, our decisions, our relationships, our finances, our families, and our future—but we don’t always want Him to be Lord over them.

It doesn’t work that way.

If we want the life God intends for us, we have to make the choice to listen to Him, follow His will, and surrender our lives to Jesus Christ as King and Lord.

That doesn’t mean we will live perfect lives. We won’t. We will still stumble. We will still make mistakes. We will still sin.

But there is a difference between stumbling while following God and deliberately choosing to walk away from Him.

The blood of Jesus cleanses us from our sin, and God’s grace gives us the opportunity to turn around when we’ve gone the wrong direction.

So, the question isn’t whether our choices matter.

They do.

The question is: What choices are you making?

Are you choosing God—or choosing yourself?

Are you listening to His voice—or ignoring it?

Are you following His will—or insisting on your own?

Are you allowing Jesus to be King and Lord of your life—or are you sitting on the throne yourself?

Jeremiah makes the consequences painfully clear.

Choosing our own way may feel right for a while, but it never ends well.

God has given us His Word. He has shown us the way. He sent His Son to save us. He has made His will known.

Now we have a choice.

Choose God.

Choose obedience.

Choose Jesus.

Choose the path that leads to life.

God really does want to bless us. But we have to be willing to make the choices that allow His will to be accomplished in our lives.

The choices you make today are shaping the life you will live tomorrow.
