Paul says this amazing statement almost as an after thought. As believers in Jesus Christ…as those who possess the Holy Spirit of God; we have also been given the mind of Christ. That is astonishing if you think about it. For those of us who trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, God has not just given us salvation and citizenship in heaven, by His grace and by the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts we can think like Jesus. Which means that when those powerful temptations come upon us; the ones Satan knows he can always get us with, now, in Christ, we can say “NO”. What an awesome weapon! All we have to do is say “no”, which, because of Jesus, we can do now. And do you know what Satan has to do when we firmly, repeatedly tell him “NO”? He has to flee from us.
James 4:7 – “Submit to God, resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.”
He WILL flee! That’s a promise!
Do you know what else the mind of Christ does for us?
It not only empowers us to say NO. Having Christ’s mind also lets us say “YES” to God and His will for us.
In Psalm 119:15-16 David said, “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.”
Even back then God’s Spirit was giving David the power to submit his will to God’s.
The problem is that Satan is a liar and tries to convince us that we are still as weak as we were before we came to Christ, but that’s not true!
Paul makes it completely clear in I Corinthians 2:16 that we are no longer stuck with a weak mind of the flesh. We don’t have to give in to Satan anymore! We can walk right past those old traps the Devil used to set for us. Why?
Because we have the mind of Christ!
My encouragement to all of us today is to remind yourself that God has given each of us the amazing gift of the mind of Christ. Let’s use it!
