Matthew 7:7 – “Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.”
Most of you are familiar with the longest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 119 with 176 verses. It covers over six pages in my Bible. Any time you try to follow a daily Bible reading plan Psalm 119 is usually given its own day due to its length.
I have a new Bible, and I am reading my way through it, but I have not set myself a time limit. So when I got to Psalm 119, I decided to take my time and meditate on the verses, and I was amazed at what God showed me.
In Matthew 7 Jesus tells His followers to ask God for things, but most of us are at a loss for knowing what we should be asking God for. What’s amazing to me about Psalm 119 is that in parts of it David lists many things that God gave him because he asked or because he trusted in God’s word.
- Verse 17, 25, 37, 40, and 50 God gives us real life.
- Verse 19 God gives revelation.
- Verse 24 God gives counsel.
- Verses 26-27, 29, 33-34 God teaches and gives understanding.
- Verse 28 God gives strength when I’m sorrowful.
- Verse 35 God leads us in the right way.
- Verse 37 God helps us avoid sin.
- Verse 38 God confirms His promises to us.
- Verse 41 and 64 God gives us His steadfast love and His promised salvation.
- Verse 49 God gives us hope.
- Verse 50 God gives comfort in affliction.
- Verse 58 God promises to be gracious to us.
- Verse 66 God teaches us good judgement and knowledge.
And it goes on. God has an entire storehouse of treasures He is anxious to give us if we, in faith will ask, seek and knock. He is anxious to give us these gifts not just for our benefit but primarily for His glory. So ask God for things, and then watch Him be amazing for you!
